Wasikur Rahman is currently practicing as an Advocate at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. He has wide experience in land acquisition, property law, contractual and commercial matters. He has represented clients in criminal matters before appellate and revisional courts, and in judicial review applications.

Since 2011, Mr. Rahman divides his time between legal practice and his hands-on involvement in the shipping and insurance industry. His area of expertise in the shipping industry includes shipbuilding, management, and operation of both cargo and passenger vessels. He has built and operated dockyards where vessels of various sizes are docked for maintenance and repair works. He is a Director of Bangladesh National Insurance Company Ltd, a leading insurance company in Bangladesh.

He obtained his Bar-at-Law (Bar Vocational Course) at the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in 2010. He obtained his Post-Graduate Diploma in Law from the University of Law in 2009. Before that, he completed his LL.B (Hon’s) from Queen Mary University London in 2008.

Arafat Hosen Khan is an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh with significant experience labour law in Bangladesh as well as in institutional capacity building for a range of institutions including, Department of Labour (DoL), Department of Inspections for Factories and Establishments (DIFE), criminal justice sector institutions, National Legal Aid Services Organization, Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), judicial capacity building among the indigenous population, Bangladesh Parliament and women police (Police Reform) in Bangladesh. He has 12 years of professional experience, including several assignments related to Public Private Partnership Authority and Public Procurement Act (as part of the legal work), access to justice and good governance and has excellent experience in contemporary national and International human rights issues. He has worked all over Bangladesh and has excellent experience with some of the National and International NGOs focused on rule of law, access to justice and human rights in Bangladesh including, ILO, DFID, USAID, GiZ, UNDP, CHRI, BLAST, ASK, Manuser Jonno Foundation, and BELA. He worked on several ILO projects as a national consultant including National Employment Injury Compensation Project, Promoting Fundamental Rights and Labour Relations in Export Oriented Industries in Bangladesh (FRLR) Project, and ILO shrimp project. He also worked on several UNDP projects as a legal expert (National Consultant) including the Justice Sector Facility (JSF) Project, Improving Democracy through Parliamentary Development (IPD) Project and the Justice Sector Strategy Dialogue Project. He worked as a National Consultant for EU- Legal & Local Governance Expert for Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh (AVCB) Phase II Evaluation cum Formulation Mission and also a legal consultant for Danish Working Environment Authority, Royal Danish, Embassy, Dhaka. He also worked on various public interest litigation matters relating to access to justice and protecting the rights of the poor, women, children, labour, people with disabilities, and the indigenous population of Bangladesh.

He is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Law, North South University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, and a Senior Researcher on Labour law, Constitutional Law, Democracy, and contemporary Human Rights issues. He is also a Member, Board of Trustee of the Institute of Inclusive Policy (IIP), a leading research-based think-tank in Bangladesh. He is a published writer both nationally and internationally on the contemporary legal, political, and human rights issues. He is holding an MA in Global Ethics and Human Values from the King’s College London with Chevening Scholarship awarded by FCO, UK. He was awarded O’Brien Fellows in Residence at McGill Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism, Faculty of Law, McGill University, Montreal, Canada. He holds an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Essex (2008) and has been called to be Bar of England and Wales in 2009.
